Hip and Single

Last Thanksgiving Eve, I was falling asleep in front of the TV and a quick flash of something in a commercial (I literally only saw something that appeared to be the top left corner of this image) and I had a vision and had to... just HAD to sketch it, haha. Originally, I had it in mind to make this a full-out painting since the color in my mind was so vivid and had to be expressed, but my will is fickle, and it never made it that far.

What makes this image interesting to me is setting. For one, there is no back-wall, or left wall. It is completely open without a railing. The more yellow details you see in place of the back wall is supposed to be the exterior architecture of the sides of the buildings across the way. The walls are semi-transparent. There are no light-fixtures in this room; all that illuminates the rooom is reflected light from the buildings outside.

I dunno whether it was due to the fact I was in my Grandmother's apartment in NY that night and was so inspired by the urban life — or, by the fact that I was so desparate for my own room this last year of college — but I was enamored by the general idea (even though I didn't realize it was so psychologically appropriate at the time). A single guy, in an empty room, chillin on AIM, ready to grab his wallet and keys off the desk and head out at the first call for dinner downtown w/friends, but it was a true fantasy for me at the time.

Recently this summer, I scanned it and colored it in Photoshop.
